What is a Virus?

  • It is a computer program that

    • Alters the way your computer operates without your permission.
    • Is (usually) harmless until it is executed.
    • Once executed, changes your computer’s settings so that the virus continues to execute itself.
    • Replicates itself either locally (on just your computer) or globally (through the Internet).
  • Some viruses damage or delete files on your computer, others don’t.
